Speaking on Friday after receiving the ‘Champion of Peace, Unity, and Development’ award from the Save Africa Initiative, a non-governmental organization (NGO), Mohammed emphasized his support for Jonathan. The organization had encouraged him to consider a presidential bid, but he made it clear that Jonathan’s experience and leadership qualities make him a more suitable candidate.
“If Jonathan runs, I’ll support him with my blood,” Mohammed declared. He expressed confidence that Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2010 to 2015, has the experience needed to effectively lead the country. Mohammed praised Jonathan’s tenure, highlighting his inclusive approach and efforts to address critical issues such as the Almajiri system and youth unemployment.
Mohammed, who previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under Jonathan, stated, “I have always said that as long as Jonathan is around, I will not present myself for leadership of this country, unless he decides not to run.” He urged the NGO to advocate for Jonathan’s candidacy, emphasizing that the former president’s leadership style was both effective and inclusive.

Regarding his current critique of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, Mohammed noted that it is part of his duty to guide the country towards a better path. He acknowledged the achievements of the PDP under past administrations, particularly praising President Olusegun Obasanjo’s contributions to telecommunications, agriculture, and infrastructure.
On the issue of presidential ticket rotation within the PDP, Mohammed reiterated the party’s belief in zoning, stating that it is the South’s turn to produce the next president. However, he stressed that this should be earned based on merit and effectiveness.
Mohammed also expressed a willingness to reconsider policies such as subsidy removal if they fail to benefit the populace, indicating a flexible approach to governance based on results and public welfare.
In summary, Bala Mohammed’s stance underscores his respect for Goodluck Jonathan’s leadership and his commitment to supporting a candidate he believes will better serve Nigeria.
