Before the general elections in 2023, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State declared that he could not desert Nyesom Wike of Rivers State since he had proven to be a reliable and trustworthy ally.
This was said by Ortom on Sunday in Makurdi at a feast in honour of the governors Wike, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Seyi Makinde, and Okezie Ikpeazu.

Ortom said that Wike was the first to denounce a bandit attack on him that was thought to be the work of Fulani herdsmen.
“He donated N250 million when Benue was under siege and he later spent over N 700 million to support the State to tackle the humanitarian crisis occasioned by the unjustified attacks,” Ortom said.
The Benue Governor continued after that adding that Wike persuaded Akwa Ibom Governor Emmanuel Udom to provide N200 million to the State as well.
Is he not a respectable friend? He is a good friend, and we are both striving to free the nation,” he continued.
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for president, was rejected by Ortom, who emphasized that any of Atiku’s followers are his adversaries.

Unless my people tell me otherwise, I am not going to back any Fulani guy continuing to do injustice to my people, Ortom declared.
Wike responded on behalf of the visiting governors, expressing gratitude to Ortom for the honour bestowed upon them.
People want to divide us, but Wike remarked, “They can not because we are bonded and can not be broken.”
Wike further counselled the PDP’s central leadership to always uphold agreements in order to maintain peace.
