Why PDP won’t sanction aggrieved govs – NEC members
There are signs that the Peoples Democratic Party may not punish five of its governors for their recent comments criticizing the party’s leadership.
The dismissal of PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu has been demanded by Governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State consistently.

They based their demands on the requirement for a fair allocation of the party’s elective offices in accordance with the PDP charter.
They particularly stated that since a Northerner, Atiku Abubakar, emerged as the party’s presidential candidate, Ayu (also from the North), should step aside to make room for a Southerner to replace him.
The five governors, who were adamant about getting their point over, quit the PDP Presidential Campaign Council in September and have since openly supported ideas that are thought to be harmful to the party’s chances of winning the 2023 elections.
In the meantime, requests for the governors to be sanctioned to instil some elements of discipline among party members have been prompted by these recent incidents, among others.
However, Chief Bode George, a former chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, said that caution must continue to be the watchword as the party steps up its efforts to appease the irate governors and their allies ahead of the 2023 elections.
As an elder, we will keep pleading with Ayu to don his thinking cap, he said to the newsmen. Because he wants to lead Nigeria, Atiku should continue to support nationalism.

“The moment is not now, even if the party wishes to censure them. As a party elder, if Atiku continues to be determined that he will not listen and Ayu is acting out everywhere, whatever anyone wants to do will be done. Atiku must be aware of the fact that these governors are not pawns on a chessboard.
“Atiku can not be discussing the party’s constitution right now. If we had not disregarded our constitution, would he have become a presidential candidate? He responded, “What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Even if Atiku wins today, the PDP elder statesman said, “He has already sown dissension in the minds of the people.
When Atiku met with them, he promised to move the chairmanship to the South. They are willing to play games with him if he is playing games with these governors. Atiku believes he has already arrived at the Aso Rock Villa.
“People are selling Atiku lies, saying that he would win without these governors, but he does not realize how enraged our (South-West) people are.
He will receive the support of the entire North, and we will see if he can secure 25% of the vote in the South-West, he said.
