Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike breaks silence on Tinubu’s victory
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State expressed his delight on Friday that Bola Tinubu, a southerner, was elected president of Nigeria in the 2023 election held on Saturday.
Wike stated in Oyo State, where he was invited by his ally, Governor Seyi Makinde, to commission a project.
“I am glad he (Makinde) is one of those who made history by ensuring that power shifted to the south.
“I have told people that those who fight for change and revolution may not be the direct beneficiaries of their efforts, but history has taught us that when power ends in the south, it will move to the north, and when it ends in the north, it will return to the south.
Therefore, it does not need to be written in the constitution prior to implementation. Wike thanked Nigerians for their determination to see this issue to fruition.

Wike is reportedly the leader of the G5, a group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors who are dissatisfied with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the party’s leadership.
In addition to Wike and Makinde, governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi are members of the group (Enugu).
The group fell out with Atiku because he reneged on an alleged promise to remove Iyorchia Ayu as party chairman. They required that Ayu be replaced with a southerner in order to support Atiku.
Ayu and Atiku are both northerners, which the group deemed to be an unfair and unjust arrangement for the South.
