The Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has promised to increase the number of Aides in his Government to 100,000

Governor Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has announced that the number of political appointees he has made in recent years will be expanded to 100,000, Ejes Gist Newspaper reports.

On Friday in Port Harcourt, during a media meeting with journalists, Governor Wike revealed this information.

On the other hand, he stated that the new administration will have complete discretion over whether or not to keep the appointments if it is unable to fulfil the financial commitments they have made.

Recall that the Rivers Governor had earlier appointed over 14,000 aides and later increased it to 50,000?

While defending his choice to appoint more personnel, the governor stated that those individuals are natives of the Rivers region.

He made the following statement: “The individuals appointed, are they not Rivers people? Will they not receive remuneration for their work?

“I am able to tell you right now, after our meeting this morning, that we are going to raise it to 100,000.

“This is a part of what we promised our people, and if the next government comes and they are unable to go with it, it is not tied to continue with it.”

The governor added that the persons are appointed in order to enable them to gather information from the unit levels so that the government will know how well it is performing.

However, the Governor denied responding to State House reporters on the renumeration of the aides.
