The late prince, who held the title of **Dan Isan Zazzau**, served as the Assistant Secretary to the Zazzau Emirate Council, a key position in one of Nigeria’s oldest and most prominent traditional emirates. The crash claimed Prince Umar’s life just 39 days after the death of his mother, the wife of the late Emir Shehu Idris, and mother-in-law of the current Emir, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli. The accident marks a further blow to the royal family and the emirate, which has been mourning multiple losses in recent weeks.
Prince Umar is survived by his two wives and two children. His death has prompted a wave of mourning across the Zazzau Emirate and beyond, with condolences pouring in from various quarters.
Mallam Abdullahi Aliyu Kwarbai, the Zazzau Emirate’s Media and Publicity Officer, confirmed the news of the prince’s passing. He stated that the Emirate would soon announce the funeral arrangements.
