In a significant move towards gender diversity and leadership excellence, Zenith Bank Plc has appointed Dr. Adaora Umeoji as its Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective June 1.

The announcement was conveyed in a notification to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) by the bank’s Company Secretary, Mr. Michael Otu, affirming that the appointment is subject to approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Dr. Umeoji’s appointment marks a historic moment for Zenith Bank as she becomes the first female GMD/CEO since the inception of the institution. She succeeds Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, the outgoing Group Managing Director, whose five-year term concludes on May 31.

With nearly 30 years of extensive banking experience, including 26 years at Zenith Bank, Dr. Umeoji has served as the Deputy Managing Director of the bank since October 28, 2016.
Dr. Adaora Umeoji is a distinguished alumna of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program (AMP) and Columbia Business School’s Global Banking Programme. She holds Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology from the University of Jos and in Accounting, with First-Class honors in Law, from Baze University, Abuja.
Furthermore, Dr. Umeoji obtained a Master of Laws from the University of Salford, United Kingdom, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Calabar, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Apollos University, United States.
Her pursuit of knowledge and excellence extends to prestigious institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Sloan School of Management, where she earned a Certificate in Economics for Business, and Wharton Business School, where she completed the strategic thinking and management program.
Additionally, Dr. Adaora Umeoji has completed executive programs in Strategic Management and Leading Global Business at Harvard Business School.
